The objectives of the Albany Maritime Foundaton are:
- To celebrate and increase the national and international awareness of Albany’s rich maritime heritage,
- To establish Albany as a centre of excellence in wooden and classic boat building and restoration,
- To encourage the development of local groups with maritime interests,
- To forge links with other maritime and heritage groups locally, throughout Australia and overseas,
- To provide opportunities for educational institutions, bodies promoting tourism in the Albany region and the wider community,
- To be involved in all aspects of projects initiated or supported by the association,
- To educate and inform people of Albany’s maritime heritage,
- To undertake and assist in projects which are relevant to Albany’s maritime heritage or any other objective of the association,
- To play a significant role in developing maritime heritage as a tourist attraction in the Albany area and to work closely with the Albany and regional community in achieving the objects of the association.
Description of our activities and outcomes:
- We promote culture and arts,
- We encourage employment and training.
- We pursue charitable purposes by conducting activities in line with the objectives of the association. This includes running boatbuilding courses which involves people of all ages and from all walks of life,
- We promote maritime activities for local schools and schoolchildren,
- We run “Festival of The Sea” which includes boatbuilding activities and many other maritime activities,
- Displaying maritime heritage from Albany and surrounding areas.
